One of dozens of adaptations of the classic Shaker tripod table, this little beauty is truly a classic in its own right. The drawers open from both sides, so that a seamstress might work from both sides of the table. These tables were to be found in almost all rooms within a community. It is available in Cherry and Pine natural finishes, and all typical period colors. The original is in the permanent collection at the Mt. Lebanon, NY community.

This stunning piece was built at the Harvard, MA community by Brother Seth Blanchard. The unusual organization

of drawers attests to both the particular attention to specific need or use and to the exceptionally high degree of design sensitivity. This is not to mention the patience it requires to make all those drawers in a decreasing number of rows, each in a graduated height. I won't even mention that each drawer is fully box jointed! The knobs become a dramatic secondary design element. The original rests in the Fruitland Museum in Harvard.

Seemingly just about as simple as it could get, this pine cabinet, probably from Watervliet, NY, is an example of the artistry and unseen complexity of pure form which became the Shakers signature. Its fine detail is surpassed perhaps only by its execution and craftsmanship. Our 1/12 scale model shown here duplicates in every way the refinement of the original. Finished, as are most of my pieces, in the warm rich aged patina of varnished pine heartwood.

This is actually a Pennsylvania German design blending the simplistic forms of primitive with the more decorative styling of American Colonial, which actually has European roots. The spoon rack on the lower shelf of the cabinet actually holds 1/12 scale spoons, if you can find them. Made in pine, this cabinet was restored from the kitchen of the Miller of Millbach in eastern Pennsylvania. It can be seen in its original home setting at the Philadelphia museum of Art.

This 1/12th scale model represents the fine craftsmanship and integrity of design that exemplifies Shaker furniture of this period. Made in the Shaker community of Enfield, Connecticut, cabinets of this type served many purposes but barely a handful are still in existence. The original, from which our measurements were taken, is in the private collection of Mrs. Edward Deming Andrews. This piece was completely hand-crafted and is one in a limited edition of 150 pieces.

Technically this lovely piece is a Sill Cupboard but as it was used in the infirmary for the storage of medicinal herbs, it is most often referred to by that name. This piece is unsigned and undated but is believed to have been built in the New Lebanon community during the first half of the nineteenth century. The drawers were originally partitioned and labeled on the outside as to the contents. It is currently in the collection of Mr. and Mrs. David Andrews. One in a limited edition of 150

One of the finest and most usable Shaker pieces in the collection. This personal secretary was made in many sizes and distributed throughout the Shaker communities. The drop front writing surface folds up but it's far more attractive to put lots of mini goodies in the cubby holes and leave it a bit sloppy. (The Shakers would turn over in their respective graves.)
