This is perhaps one of the most common Shaker pieces, known around the world as a beautiful and functional example of Shaker craftsmanship and construction ingenuity. Made originally in New Lebanon NY this is considered by most as fine a work of art as one will find in furniture. I make this table in a dark natural finishe and all typical period colors. The original table from which I took the measurements resides at Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

This bookcase was used for the storage of hymnals in the meeting room at Watervliet, NY community. Glass was generally used sparingly in Shaker pieces and in the quest for authenticity, I use real glass only .010 thick. An unusual touch is the fine quirk bead along all the vertical door edges which sets off the overall massiveness of this large piece with a fine delicateness. The original, still in exceptional condition, is in a private collection.

This splendid workbench attests to the care that Shaker artisans put into everything they made. Various species of hard wood were used to meet the demands of use. This bench was made for both left- handed and right-handed users and features two vises of different size. Every drawer is a different size for some unknown practical reason, and it is thought to have been made in either Hancock, Mass. or Enfield, Conn. This pieces is currently an entry marker in the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massachusetts. Yes, the vises actually work.

Perhaps the finest example existent of Shaker built-in art, this tall, stately cupboard is truly a masterpiece of design. Originally built into the wall of a dwelling in the Enfield, CT community, it is now in a private collection. The construction details are numerous but significant is the asymmetrical setting of the small drawers, reason unknown. The case finish is a warm patina of natural pine over a once yellow stain, the doors and drawer fronts are Butternut. This replica is perfect right down to the working twist locks.

This lovely Pennsylvania German piece is of unknown origin but offers a classic sense of line and proportion. It is a piece not uncommonly found in older collections and can be had either in natural aged pine with warm patina, or painted in any period color. In either case the piece is finished as it would exist today, worn, rubbed and full of stories. A great place to store all the other wonderful small pieces on the web site.

Whichever one pulls your heart string, this most unusual piece will give your doll house kitchen a unique, warm look regardless of style theme. Actually built up from layers of wood and laminated, with the warm aged patina of old maple and right down to the side bolts that hold the whole thing together. The leg style and height are the only differences. The top is even warn and marked with knife cuts that come with its 125 year old history. Either way, it's just a really fun piece.

I found this extraordinary cabinet in the infirmary at Canterbury Shaker Village in New Hampshire. I am told that it has never been identified as being a genuine Shaker piece but was probably made by a local craftsman who either studied or actually worked in the village but was probably an outsider. It is available in the original gray color or natural finishes. The drawers are, of course, fully dovetailed and the attention to detail is exquisite.
